Author Daughter
of ACAETA members Robert & Betty Delwiche - Elizabeth
Engelhardt -
Hendersonville High Class of 1988, and then college downstate - is
currently teaching at University of Texas, Austin.
Several BBQ
proprietors in Central Texas, in conjunction with the Southern Foodways
Alliance, were searching for a writer to do a book that would capture
their families' history. Elizabeth accepted the challenge. With a team
of 11 graduate students, they worked for over two years interviewing
and photographing the owners and employees of some 25 renowned haunts
in the middle of Texas - some spanning 3 or 4 generations - to produce
this 257 page book containing more than 100 full color photos.
Enjoy
this richly satisfying journey into the world of barbecue as food and
culture, filled with first-person stories from pit masters, barbecue
joint owners, sausage makers, and wood suppliers.
